The overall order in which the steps occur is not critical. What is important is that you determine a collection of settings and adopt them uniformly building the document from start to end. For example the order Dialogs to Messages to Data Frames to Data Elements (big to little as shown here) or the reverse order. Interject steps to add any external files as needed.
At this point, each SDO has some established habits they tend to follow. If you have not used the tool before, ask others working for that SDO for help. It is typically easier to modify existing documents in this respect than to create new ones.
Do not render the same table content more than once. The tool allows this but it is a very bad engineering practice to specify something in more than one place, even if you are using automation such as 1st Word to ensure that they remain in sync.
Render the hyperlink step last after creating and placing into the document all of the other text which you wish to link.

If a rendering run has produced a result you do not expect or want, you need not wait for all steps to render. Simply kill the Word program and the automation will cease. This will abort the 1st Word tool but you will not damage your database or imported files and in fact it is an effective way to capture a partially rendered document for further review (the 1st Word tool saves the work in progress about every 50 records or so). |
