Link Cross-Link report..

The Cross-Linking Report displays a list of other records (and the table they appear in) which are using the current ASN.1 in a valid way inside their own record data. Simple occurrences of the string or use of the string in a non valid ASN way (such as a comment statement) are not reported. In other words, this provides a tree of relationships in the nomenclature of ISO 14817, listing those records that use the item being linked.

The tables currently checked on the Linking List are the only ones checked in this process, and checking is limited to the currently loaded file. Other possible linkages in other files or standards may exist and will not be reported here (a central registry of some type would be needed to determine that data).

Typically the information reported here is generated when a standards document is created and is listed along with various hyper-links to the other places in the document where this entry is used.

1Data Name Display

Data Name Display The name of the data concept for which links are being sought. The Descriptive Name as well as the ASN name are shown for the record.

3Results Display

Results Display The results window displays all the places where the record was found to be properly used in the ASN of other records.

This is limited to searching in the tables currently checked in the Link Set Dialog. The searching process is a two-step process. First, all simple string matches are detected with pattern matching and SQL calls. Then, every matching record is examined with the ASN parser to confirm that the string match occurred in a valid ASN context (and not in a comment or a sub-string, or in another
module name). Records which meet this criteria are displayed.

Each table with any matching records is listed by name, in order, followed by the record entries where a match was found. The descriptive name of the record is given first, followed by the ASN name in brackets. You can see in this example that the ASN entry AxelCount is used in three data frames having to do with vehicle types.
