Main Screen, Record Controls

The records controls are found on the main window under the data display grid area. These controls generally deal with adding or removing individual records from the currently active table as well as viewing and editing the contents of existing records. The Links button allows exploring relationships between the current selected record and other records. The Lock-All button allows locking (assigning checksums) to the records.

Edit/View Record

Used to open an Edit or View window for the currently selected record. You can also double-click on the left hand side of the data grid view for that record (a single click will populate the summary information for that record). The text displayed in the button changes between Edit or View depending on the setting of the Read-Only checkbox.

Add Record

Used to add one or more records to the current table. This button is enabled only when in the read-write mode. A set of Screens will be presented asking how many records to create and what to name them, then the new records will be displayed.

Delete

Used to delete the currently selected record. This button is enabled only when in the read-write mode. A yes-no confirmation Screens will be displayed and if YES is selected the current record will be moved into the deleted records table.

XML button

Used to enter the XML translation mode for the current record (although when entered from this mode all the records in the current table can also be processed and updated with one button press). See the XML Editor for additional usage notes.

Links button

Used to display a detailed Links Report of all the links found in other records' ASN to this record's ASN. The links are calculated using only those tables marked in the Links Table for linking. The small text above the button displays the current number of links for this entry from all tables. This is calculated as a background task and may take a moment to appear with large tables. Keep in mind that you will not see links to usage in other standards that you do not have loaded.

Lock All

Used to lock the records in the current table. This action calculates a CRC checksum for various parts of the record and then adds that, as well as the current user name, to the record. These value are re-computed when a record is viewed to determine if it has been changed since it was locked.

In order to lock most tables you MUST be a data steward, as this is used to create authoritative records for the SDOs to exchange. Data users (non stewards) can lock only entries in the local data table. The sections locked are as follows:

   Descriptive Text      Natural language parts of the record
   ASN Code      All ASN code segments of the record
   XML Code      All XML code segments of the record
   Meta-Data      Most meta data items include date stamps

Any editing in the Edit window to the file covered by these values (as well as any editing by other tools or directly in access) will void the checksum and that part of the record will no longer be shown as locked.
